Knights Defeat Stanly in Volleyball

Knights Defeat StanlyAlbemarle, NC- Surry started strong before fighting off a determined Stanly Community College in volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Knights got off to an impressive start with a 25-14 win in the first set. Bridget Key sparked Surry by reeling off eight straight service points as the Knights built a 20-10 lead over the Eagles. Surry closed out the match on spikes from Dakota Lawson (left) and Megan Stanley. In the second set, Surry rallied down 22-19 behind the serving of Caitlin Voigt for a 25-23 win. The Knights closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the third set. Lawson keyed the third set win with six consecutive service points. Both Stanley and Lawson led the Knights collecting twelve kills each, while Mallorie Vogler added eight. Catilin Voigt tallied sixteen assists while Bridget Key added twelve. Surry libero Brittany Draughn collected fourteen digs for the Knights. “We didn’t play with much intensity or concentration,” stated Surry coach May Dobson. “We lacked communication, and focus. Hopefully, we can play better this weekend.” The Knights are in a stretch of four consecutive games on the road. Surry (6-0) will visit Brunswick Community College on Sunday, and then hit the road against Rockingham Community College and Louisburg College next week. Sunday’s game at Brunswick is set for 2 pm.
