Surry could not get a run across in the first game as they opened up their season versus the Lady Bulldogs.  The Bulldog pitcher was too much for the Knights to handle only allowing one hit by Brooke Honeycutt in the sixth inning.  Honeycutt started for the Knights on the mound and gave a solid performance allowing 8 hits, 8 strikeouts and only one walk.

The second game proved to be a close until the top of the ninth inning, when the Bulldogs pulled ahead by three runs.  In the first inning Pitt scored a run when they got baserunner from a walk that advanced and scored off two hits.   However, the Knights answered back when lead off batter Mallorie Vogler reached first on a walk, advanced to second on a hit from Megan Stanley, which both moved up to second and third on a passed ball by Bulldog pitcher Charity Watson.  Paige Honeycutt came up big with a two run single in the gap that put the Lady Knights ahead by two.  The Bulldogs rallied in the top of the fourth with a run, but again the Knights got one as well when Courtney Reid led off the inning with another walk and managed to score on a hit by Mallorie Vogler.  Pitt would score another run in the top of the six to tie the game and send both squads in to extra innings.  The seventh and eighth innings proved to be a pitcher’s dual as both team had a hard time putting runners across.  Anna Mitchell, who pitched the complete nine innings, would end up taking the loss for the Knights as Pitt pulled together four runs in the ninth and the Knights were unable to answer back.  Mitchell faced 48 batters allowed 7 runs off 14 hits, had 6 strikeouts and 7 walks.  Vogler, Stanley, and Paige Honeycutt each recorded hits and Vogler and Honeycutt are responsible for all three RBIs.  Courtney Reid was rewarded walks every time up to the plate that day!

Honeycutt on a single to left center.  The Hurricanes were not finished yet when they got their leadoff on with a triple and pushed her across with a double by Hurricane third basemen, Amber Weaver.  The top of the seventh was the last chance for the Lady Knights and there was hope as Paige Honeycutt led off with a double to right center.  Brooke Honeycutt, up next, was hit by a pitch and granted first.  Megan Stanley would then come up with a big line shot to left center was so hot that P. Honeycutt had to wait to see if the ball would fall or not.  She was tagged out at third for the first out of the inning.  Hannah Bullins would walk to load the bases with only one out.  Reid would strikeout and it would look like the Hurricanes had this wrapped up, but sophomore left fielder Shawn Watson would come to the plate for one more chance.  Watson would unload on a first pitch for a grand slam homerun to put the Knights ahead again as well as be enough for Surry as Anna Mitchell would go and hold the meat of Louisburg’s order with three up and three down.  Mitchell allowed 9 hits with 5 strikeouts and only one walk.

The second inning the Indians would get on the board when Salk's centerfielder, Alyssa Chambers ripped a 3 run triple off starting pitcher Anna Mitchell who struck out 4 Indian batters in 3.3 innings of work.
