Dobson, NC- Surry defeated Guilford Tech, 3-0, in Region X volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights took game one, 25-15, breaking a 15-15 tie with Sara Parker reeling off five consecutive service points for a 20-15 lead. In the second game, the Lady Knights raced out to a 10-3 lead and never trailed while finishing the set, 25-6. Surry wrapped up the match in the third set by finishing off the Titans, 25-12. “We played well at times,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “We haven’t played in a week with fall break, so it was good to get back on the court.”
Offensively for the Lady Knights, Brittany Tolbert (left) recorded eleven kills while Sara Parker and Summer Robertson each added ten kills. Tolbert added two digs and a block while Parker contributed nine digs and an ace. Robertson led Surry with four aces while also adding a dig. Setter Kara Hodges dished out 25 assists while adding three digs, an ace, and a kill. “We got contributions from our entire team,” commented Marion-Kiser.
Defensively, Taylor Moxley led Surry with 18 digs while Taylor Lookabill and Alyssa Parker each notched six digs. Tori Nelson also contributed three digs along with two service aces. “We hit the floor defensively and really hustled after the ball,” added Marion-Kiser. “We had a good effort from everyone and hopefully we can keep playing well.”
Surry (19-3) will continue its home stand hosting Wytheville on Wednesday and Catawba-Valley on Thursday. Both games will start at 6 pm. The Lady Knights will host their second annual “Dig Pink” event on October 26 hosting Piedmont College at 6 pm. All home games are free to the public and held in the campus gym.
