
Dobson, NC- Surry jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back in defeating Virginia Western Community College in volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Knights captured the match in straight sets, 25-11, 25-9, and 25-11. Brittany Tolbert (left) led the Knights offensively with eight kills while Amber Owens added seven kills. Sara Parker and Summer Robertson each contributed four kills each. Setter Kara Hodges dished out twenty assists while adding one kill and one dig. Tolbert and Parker also led the Knights with four service aces each. Defensively, Parker recorded eight digs while Taylor Moxley and Tolbert added six digs each. Owens had a game high four blocks while Robertson and Parker added two each. “We had four games this week which allowed us to gain some needed experience,” stated Surry volleyball coach, Jan Marion-Kiser. “We were able to see a lot of players in different situations and use our depth to our advantage.”
On Friday, the Lady Knights traveled north to take on Wytheville Community College. Surry captured the match in straight sets over the Wildcats. Summer Robertson led the Surry offense with nine kills while Brittany Tolbert contributed eight kills to go along with an ace. Amber Owens notched seven kills and Sara Parker added six. Kara Hodges recorded 33 assists and added two service aces. Defensively, Owens and Robertson collected four blocks while Sara Parker recorded twelve digs and Taylor Moxley added eleven digs. “We played really well and our floor communication was excellent,” added Marion-Kiser. “Wytheville has a good team, and it took a total team effort against them.”
Surry (8-1) travels to Guilford Technical Community College on Friday for a tri-match with Guilford Tech. and Johnston Community College with the Lady Knights beginning play at 3 pm.
Surry returns home on Saturday for another tri-match with Brunswick Community College and Rockingham Community College. The first match between Brunswick and Surry will begin at 12 pm.
