Lady Knights Named All-Region Volleyball |

Wentworth, NC- Surry’s Kara Hodges and Sara Parker were selected to the All-Region volleyball team in a vote conducted by the Region X volleyball coaches. Amber Owens was also named All-Region Honorable Mention by the volleyball coaches of Region X. Hodges, a freshman setter from North Surry High School, led the Lady Knights in assists with 872. Her average of 10.14 assists per set ranked second nationally. Hodges also recorded 77 kills, 83 digs, 56 blocks, and 41 service aces. “Kara had an excellent season for us,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “She did a great job of distributing the ball to our hitters. Kara is a terrific all around player, extremely competitive, and tremendous leader.” Parker, a freshman outside hitter from North Surry High School finished 25th nationally in hitting efficiency at 41%. Parker recorded 224 kills on the season while adding 295 digs, 41 blocks, 18 assists, and 36 service aces. “Sara was a very versatile player for us this season,” commented Marion-Kiser. “She is very skilled both offensively and defensively. Sara has worked extremely hard on her game and made a lot of big plays for us this season.” Owens, a sophomore middle hitter from North Wilkes High School recorded 117 blocks ranking 21st nationally with 1.32 blocks per set. Owens also tallied 161 kills and ranked 38th nationally in hitting efficiency (38%). “Amber had a great two seasons at Surry,” stated Marion-Kiser. “She led our team in blocks and was a vocal leader for our team.” Surry also had three players ranked nationally in various statistical categories. Summer Robertson, a freshman middle hitter from North Surry High School finished the season ranked 2nd nationally in hitting efficiency (58 %) while Brittany Tolbert, a freshman outside hitter from Surry Central High School finished 43rd nationally at 36%. Starmount graduate Taylor Moxley, a sophomore, finished 9th nationally in digs per set at 5.65. “Summer, Brittany, and Taylor meant so much to our team this year,” stated Marion-Kiser. “It’s a \tremendous honor to have several of our players rank among the national leaders. I’m proud of all of these girls and our entire team for a tremendous season.” Surry finished the season with an overall record of 25-5.
