Dobson, NC- Surry defeated Wytheville, 3-0, in volleyball action on Wednesday evening. The Lady Knights took game one, 25-14, over the Wildcats after racing out to a 17-7 lead. Surry jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in game two before capturing the set, 25-20. Surry closed out the match in the third set, 25-11. “We didn’t play with a lot of intensity,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “However, we did play well at times. We just lacked some consistency.”
The Lady Knights were led offensively by setter Kara Hodges with 44 assists while adding three kills, seven digs, and four aces. Sara Parker led Surry with twelve kills while Amber Owens added ten digs. Summer Robertson and Brittany Tolbert each recorded seven kills. Alyssa Parker and Taylor Moxley led the Lady Knights in service aces with seven each. “We had a very balanced offensive attack,” added Marion-Kiser. “Kara (Hodges) did a great job of distributing the ball to our hitters.”
Defensively, Taylor Moxley led Surry with 27 digs while teammate Sara Parker added 22 digs. Alyssa Parker contributed eighteen digs for the Lady Knights while Owens, Robertson, and Tolbert each notched three blocks. “Our blocking was very solid,” commented Marion-Kiser. “I thought we handled Wytheville’s height really well.”
Surry (20-3) returns to action on Thursday evening hosting Catawba Valley in a Region X conference match at 6 pm. The Lady Knights will host their annual Dig Pink game on Tuesday at 6 pm against Piedmont College.
