Knights Complete Weekend Volleyball Sweep

-   Surry raced out to a 7-0 advantage in the final set of play to defeat Rockingham, 25-10, and complete a four game weekend sweep in Region X volleyball.   The Lady Knights captured the first set, 25-17 over the Eagles while taking the second set, 25-8.  Kara Hodges led Surry by dishing out 28 assists while also contributing two kills, two digs, two service aces, and a block.  Summer Robertson recorded eight kills while adding two blocks, four digs, and three aces.  Amber Owens, Elizabeth Marshall, and Brittany Tolbert each notched five kills while Hayley Shore contributed five service aces.  Defensively, Taylor Lookabill led the Lady Knights with 25 digs while also recording three service aces. 

Prior to the Eagles, Surry defeated Brunswick earlier in the day as part of the Region X tri-match.  The Lady Knights slipped by the Dolphins in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-23, and 25-23.   Robertson led the Knights offensively with twelve kills while adding four blocks and a service ace.  Owens added ten kills and two blocks while Tolbert added seven kills and three digs.  Hodges recorded 32 assists along with three kills, and two service aces.  Defensively, Taylor Moxley notched 22 digs to lead the Lady Knights while teammate Sara Parker added six digs to go along with four kills. 

On Friday, the Lady Knights traveled to Guilford Tech for a tri-match with the Titans along with Johnston Community College.  Surry defeated the Jaguars in three sets, 25-7, 25-19, and 25-19. Summer Robertson had a team high 15 kills while teammates Brittany Tolbert added twelve.  Kara Hodges recorded 34 assists with six aces, two blocks, and a kill for the Lady Knights.  Taylor Moxley (left) led the Knights defensively with 23 digs to along with three aces.  Sara Parker added ten digs with five kills and two services. 

In Friday’s finale, Surry defeated Guilford Tech in three sets.  The Knights took game one over the Titans, 25-15, and captured the second and third sets, 25-20, and 25-13.  Hodges dished out 32 assists and added five kills and five aces while Robertson notched a team high, eleven kills.  Parker contributed seven kills and twelve digs with Brittany Tolbert adding seven kills.  Taylor Moxley had another solid game with 30 digs. 

The Lady Knights get back in action on Thursday in a Region X match at Wake Technical Community College.  Surry (12-1) returns home on Friday to face Davidson County Community College at 6 pm.  The Lady Knights then host Sandhills Community College on Saturday starting at 1 pm.
