Surry volleyball player Megan Stanley was recognized by the Surry County Commissioners as part of the commissioner’s meeting on Monday evening, September 21. Stanley was given a resolution in honor of being named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Volleyball Preseason All-American team. The commissioners also presented Stanley with news articles reflecting the award.
“This was an outstanding honor for Megan and her family,” stated Surry athletic director, Mark Tucker. “We are extremely appreciative to all the county commissioners for taking this opportunity to recognize her. We really appreciate the recognition by the commissioners and their support of our student-athletes and our athletic program.”
Stanley was recently selected as a third team All-American following an outstanding freshman campaign. The outside hitter led the Knights to a runner-up finish in Region X while being selected to the All-Region (First Team) and All-Tournament teams.
Stanley, a graduate of Surry Central High School, led the Knights with 3.14 kills per game. She averaged .364 aces per game and .795 digs per game. Stanley is also an outstanding student with a 3.08 grade point average while also being nominated as a college ambassador.
Stanley was the only Region X player to earn preseason All-American accolades. |
