Knights Sweep Past Rockingham

Surry defeated Rockingham in Region X volleyball action on Wednesday evening. The Knights finished off the Eagles in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-12, and 25-7.

“It’s always tough to go on the road in our region,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “We knew that Rockingham would play us hard.” Taylor Moxley

Holding a 2-0 lead, Surry put away the match behind the serving of Taylor Moxley. Moxley (right) reeled off three consecutive aces as the Knights captured the third set, 25-7. In the first set, Surry broke open a close game behind outside hitter Megan Stanley. Stanley finished the match with twelve kills and four digs while teammate Mallorie Vogler finished with ten kills and four digs. The Knights received solid front row play from Patty Murphy, Hannah Fulk, Cassie Durham, and Amber Owens.

“The depth of our team showed tonight,” said Marion-Kiser. “Not only up front, but also on the back row with play from Brittany Draughn, Taylor Moxley, and Tori Nelson.”

Draughn had another excellent outing with 14 digs from her libero position while Surry’s Alyssa Parker and Caitlin Voigt combined for twenty six assists from the setter position.

“We played well defensively, and worked together as a team,” added Marion-Kiser. “With our next three games at home, we are hopeful of getting a lot of fan support.”

The Knights (5-0) begin a three game home-stand starting Saturday against Vance-Granville at 1 pm. Surry then hosts Davidson County on Tuesday and Central Carolina on Wednesday with both matches starting at 6 pm. All home games are played in the Dobson campus gym and admission is free.
