Knights Knock Off Guilford Tech  

 

Surry rallied to defeat Guilford Tech., 3-2, in volleyball action on Tuesday. The Titans took the first two games, 25-20 and 25-22, behind outside hitter Charessa Brooks. Surry then built a 14-7 lead in the third game before capturing the game, 25-19. The Knights tied the contest at 2-2 by taking the fourth game, 25-18. Surry capped off the comeback with a 15-12 score in the fifth set.

“We had a great team effort. Being down two games, we battled back and received an outstanding effort,” said Surry Coach, Jan Marion-Kiser. “We really played tight in the first two sets,” added Marion-Kiser. “Once we loosened up, we played pretty well.” Megan Stanley

The Knights were led by outside hitter Megan Stanley (right) with 13 kills, 12 digs, and one assist. Mallorie Vogler added 12 kills, four digs, and one ace while middle hitter Patty Murphy totaled six kills, two blocks, and two assists. Surry received solid play from both of their setters with Alyssa Parker totaling 22 assists and Caitlin Voigt adding eleven. Parker also added two digs and a service ace while Voigt collected a kill and three service aces.

Defensively for the Knights, Libero Brittany Draughn tallied twenty digs with two kills along with a service ace. Hannah Fulk added four blocks with two block assists while Cassie Durham had seven kills, two blocks, and two block assists.

“After the first two sets, our defense played really well,” added Marion-Kiser.

The Knights (4-0) travel to Rockingham on Wednesday for another Region X match-up with the Eagles. Game time is set for 6 pm.

The Knights return home for a three game home-stand starting Saturday against Vance-Granville at 1 pm. Surry then hosts Davidson County on Tuesday and Central Carolina on Wednesday with both matches starting at 6 pm.
