Surry defeated Wytheville Community College in straight sets on Friday in a non-conference volleyball game. The Knights opened the contest with an 8-2 lead receiving solid serving from Alyssa Parker. The Wildcats battled back before dropping the set, 25-16.
In the second set, Surry jumped out to a 12-2 behind outstanding play from Cassie Durham. Durham recorded six kills during the second set in which the Knights captured, 25-7. Surry wrapped up the match with a 25-15 score in the third set.
“We played well at times, but need more consistency,” stated Surry coach, Jan Marion-Kiser. “We served well for the most part, but didn’t hit or block like we are capable.”
Surry was led by Durham who totaled fourteen kills while Megan Stanley and Mallorie Vogler each added twelve kills. Caitlin Voigt and Parker each tallied twelve assists while Brittany Draughn recorded fourteen digs.
“All twelve of our players saw action which gave us a chance to look at some new rotations,” added Marion-Kiser. “Hopefully with three conference games this week, we’ll be ready to play.”
The Knights (3-0) return to action on Tuesday hosting Region X foe, Guilford Tech at 6 pm. Surry then travels to Rockingham Community College on Wednesday before returning to action at home on Saturday at 1pm against Vance-Granville Community College. All games are Region X conference game and admission is free. |
