Surry Defeats Louisburg in Volleyball  

 

The Surry volleyball team defeated Louisburg College, 3-0, in its home opener on Wednesday night. The Knights captured the first game, 25-8, jumping out to an early 11-2 lead behind the serving of outside hitter, Mallorie Vogler. Patty Murphy

The Knights took the second game, 25-6, getting solid play from middle hitter, Patty Murphy (left). Murphy, a former Surry Central standout, led Surry with seven kills and added three blocks.

Surry raced out to a 10-0 lead in game three before finishing off the Hurricanes, 25-12. Megan Stanley totaled six kills and ten digs while Cassie Durham and Amber Owens each added five kills. The Knights received solid play from both setters with Alyssa Parker collecting 14 assists and Caitlin Voigt adding ten assists. Parker also notched two aces and two digs. Defensive specialist, Taylor Moxley had three aces on the night while libero, Brittany Draughn totaled fifteen digs.

“We played well and kept our focus for the entire match,” stated Surry coach, Jan Marion-Kiser. “We had a good home crowd, and hopefully our fan support will continue to grow.”

The Knights (2-0) will travel to Wytheville Community College on Friday for a non-conference contest against the Wildcats. The match is scheduled to start at 4 pm. Surry returns home on September 15 with a Region X match against Guilford Tech. Game time is set for 6 pm in the campus gym and admission is free.
