| Surry Golf Team Partners with Lifespan | |||
|
The Surry Community College golf team members recently paired with members of the local Lifespan organization for golf instruction and partner play. The event which started three years ago was the idea of Surry golf coach, Tom Pendergraft. “Our golf team was looking for a way to give back to the community, and this has been incredibly rewarding,” stated Pendergraft. “This is a great partnership and we look forward to it each year.” This year’s event was held at Pine Ridge Classic Golf Course and featured 25 Lifespan participants along with ten members of the SCC golf team. “Each year members of our golf team ask me when we are going to partner and play with the Lifespan golfers,” added Pendergraft. “They love doing it.” Along with the Surry golf team, Farm Bureau Insurance and Surry Insurance helped sponsor the event. “This event would not have been successful without our sponsors. Their commitment and generosity to our community is wonderful,” added Pendergraft. “We are extremely proud of our golf team and Coach Pendergraft for hosting this event,” stated Mark Tucker, Surry Athletic Director. “Our coaches and athletic teams do an outstanding job of giving back to the community, and these types of events are extremely rewarding for everyone involved.” After finishing instruction and a round of golf, each Lifespan golfer was presented with a SCC golf shirt along with several donated items. “We truly appreciate the support and donations from Jeff Edmonds of Farm Bureau Insurance and Surry Insurance,” added Tucker. “I know everyone had a remarkable experience.” For more information on Lifespan may be obtained at www.lifespanservices.org. |
