Surry Defeats Brunswick in Semifinals  

 

Surry advanced to the Region X Championship in volleyball knocking off Brunswick, 3-1, on Saturday. The Knights took down the Dolphins, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16.

Surry was led by libero Brittany Draughn with forty eight digs and Cassie Durham with twelve kills and eight blocks. Outside hitter Megan Stanley added fourteen kills while Mallorie Vogler and Amber Owens each added seven kills.

“We played really well for the most part,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “We had a great effort from our entire team.”

Surry’s Alyssa Parker led the team with eighteen assists while Caitlin Voigt contributed twelve assists. Defensively, Stanley added twenty digs while Vogler notched nineteen digs.

“We really played aggressive defensively,” added Marion-Kiser. “Our players let very little hit the floor.”

Surry (20-5) advances to the Region X Championship game against Catawba Valley Community College on Saturday.

The championship game is being held at Lenoir Community College and will begin at 3 pm.

The Region X champion will advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association Volleyball Tournament held in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
