Knights Down Eagles in Tournament  

 

Surry defeated Rockingham on Friday in first round action of the Region X Tournament held at Lenoir Community College. The Knights took game one, 25-10 behind the serving of Caitlin Voigt (right). The sophomore setter finished the match with an incredible fifteen service aces while also adding fifteen assists.

Megan Stanley added fourteen kills and seven digs while Mallorie Vogler tallied five kills, one service ace, and three digs.

“We played well at times,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “Hopefully, this will give us some confidence facing Brunswick tomorrow in the semifinals.”

Surry took game two against the Eagles, 25-14, receiving solid play from Cassie Durham who finished with five kills, two service aces, one dig, and three blocks while libero Brittany Draughn finished with one kills and a team leading twenty four digs.

Surry wrapped up the match, 25-7, in the third set over Rockingham. Setter Alyssa Parker finished with seven assists and four service aces while Patty Murphy added six kills to go along with two blocks.

“We’re facing the defending Region X champions in Brunswick, so we’ll have to play very well to have a chance,” added Marion-Kiser. “We split with them during the regular season, so each team is very familiar with each other.”

11-1Surry (19-5) will take on Brunswick Community College on Saturday in the Region X Tournament semifinals. The match is scheduled for 12:30 pm at Lenoir Community College.
