Surry finished off the Johnston Community College Jaguars in three sets on Friday, October 23. The Knights knocked off the Jaguars, 25-20, 25-16, and 25-22 in the Region X volleyball contest.
Surry was led by Megan Stanley with nine kills, Hannah Fulk with seven kills, and Cassie Durham with six kills. Alyssa Parker contributed twelve assists while Caitlin Voigt added eleven.
Libero Tori Nelson (left) led Surry with twenty one digs while Mallorie Vogler notched fourteen digs and Stanley added twelve.
Vogler also recorded two services aces while Stanley and Voigt added one each. Durham notched a team high three blocks while Amber Owens and Patty Murphy each contributed a block. 
On Thursday, October 22, Surry dropped a tough, five set match to the Catawba Valley Community College Buccaneers.
The Knights took the first two sets by scores of 31-29 and 25-13. The Buccaneers responded taking the final three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 15-9.
Surry received stellar play from Cassie Durham who finished with ten kill and eight blocks. Megan Stanley led the Surry offense with eleven kills and added fourteen digs.
Patty Murphy notched seven kills and added a block while Hannah Fulk recorded five kills and one block.
Surry libero Tori Nelson recorded eighteen digs while Mallorie Vogler contributed fourteen digs and had a team high six service aces.
Alyssa Parker registered sixteen assists with teammate Caitlin Voigt adding eight assists. Voigt also added four service aces while Parker notched three.
“We had a tremendous effort against Catawba Valley, but just could not close out the match,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “At Johnston, we got off to a slow start, but played well at times.”
Surry (15-4) will travel to Guilford Tech. on Tuesday, October 27, before closing out the regular season with three consecutive home games.
The Knights host Brunswick Community College on Friday, October 30, at 6:00 p.m., then take on Lenoir Community College on Sunday, November 1, at 2:00 p.m.
Surry closes out the regular season against Rockingham next Tuesday, November 3, at 6:00 p.m. |
