Surry defeated the Lenoir Lancers in three sets on Saturday, October 3 in a Region X volleyball match-up. Surry took the first game, 25-20, after breaking a 16-16 tie with four consecutive points behind the serving of Brittany Draughn.

Surry went up, 2-0, with a 25-12 decision behind outstanding play from middle hitter Cassie Durham. Durham led the Knights with twelve kills while adding six blocks. Surry closed out the match by capturing the third set, 25-16, over the Lancers getting solid front row play from Hannah Fulk (right), Patty Murphy, and Amber Owens.

“We had a very good effort from our entire team,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “It was good to see us bounce back and play much better. We played well in all facets of the game.”

Surry returns home on Tuesday, October 6 against Vance-Granville in a Region X game starting at 6:00 p.m. The Knights will then host a “Dig Pink” event on Thursday, October 8 against Piedmont Baptist College at 6:00 p.m. The event will help raise awareness for breast cancer.

“We certainly want the gym packed for all our home games, but especially our “Dig Pink” game against Piedmont,” added Marion-Kiser. “Hopefully, everyone will come out, wear pink, and cheer on the Lady Knights.”

Surry (10-2) will close out the three game home stand against Johnston Community College on Friday, October 9 with another Region X game starting at 4:00 p.m.
