Eddie Wilmoth begins his second season as Head Basketball Coach at Surry. Wilmoth brings a wealth of experience having served as both Head Coach and Western Regional Commissioner in AAU basketball during the past fifteen years. During this time, Wilmoth had led AAU teams to National Runner-Up and third place finishes while coaching numerous players that have played Division I basketball. Wilmoth has also served as a delegate to the AAU national convention during the past seven years. Wilmoth and his wife, Debbie reside in Dobson.
Tony Searcy begins his tenth overall season on the Surry coaching staff. Searcy served as Head Coach for eight seasons leading the Knights to five regular season conference championships and five tournament championships. The Knights finished as District Runners-up in 2000 and 2001 while finishing 8th in the final 2001 national poll. During his tenure as head coach, Searcy coached two All-Americans; one Academic All-American; and four Region X players of the year. Searcy has garnered three Region X Coach of the Year awards while at Surry. Searcy enjoyed a stellar career at both Surry and Appalachian State University. During his playing days at Surry, Searcy earned All-Region and All-American honors. At Appalachian State, Searcy set several individual records while also being selected to All-Southern Conference and All-Tournament teams. In 1978, Searcy was drafted by the Golden State Warriors, and enjoyed a one year professional career in Belgium. After his playing days, Searcy returned to Appalachian and began his coaching career. Searcy served as an assistant to Bobby Cremins and Kevin Cantwell as well for six years. Searcy graduated from Northwest Guilford High School in 1974 while being selected as Conference Player of the Year. In addition to assisting with the basketball team, Searcy is a counselor in Student Development.
Searcy is married to the former Paige Dodd and resides in Pilot Mountain. They have a daughter, Jessica, 24; and son, Peyton, 23.
