Asheboro, NC - Surry had three players selected to the Region X All-Region teams for the 2007 season. First baseman Johnny Spake and designated hitter Robby Monday were selected first-team All-Region X while pitcher Justin Moody was a second-team Region X selection.
"Johnny, Robbie, and Justin all made great contributions to our team this season," stated Surry coach Mark Tucker. "It is very rewarding to see our players recognized for the success they have in our conference. As a coaching staff, we are very proud of them."
Spake, the Region X Runner-up Player of the Year, led the Surry offense with a .397 average along with 13 home runs, 46 runs scored and 60 RBI's. The first baseman also added 17 doubles, and recorded a .718 slugging percentage to go along with a .520 on-base percentage.
Spake, a sophomore from Catawba, NC, was also named as the Rawlings Region X Defensive Player of the Year. The award recognizes the top defensive player in Region X.
Monday finished the 2007 campaign with a .382 average along with 6 home runs, 41 RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .601. Monday, a freshman from Elkin, NC, scored 46 runs, collected 16 doubles, and posted an on-base percentage of .492.
Moody led the Knights with five saves while also finishing the 2007 season with a perfect 6-0 record. The freshman from Yadkinville, NC, also posted an earned run average of 2.02.
Surry finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 39-20.
