Spake Named Rawlings Region X Defensive Player of the Year
Colorado Springs, CO - Surry's Johnny Spake was selected by Region X baseball coaches as the Rawlings Region X Defensive Player of the Year for 2007. Spake, a sophomore from Catawba, NC, lead the Knights and all Region X position players with a .986 fielding percentage.

The Surry first baseman committed only three errors on the season in leading the Knights to a 39-20 record. Spake also led the Knights offensively with a .397 average including 13 home runs, 46 runs scored, 60 RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .718.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is awarded for outstanding performance in the field. In partnership with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Rawlings is presenting the first-ever Rawlings Gold Glove Awards to players in college baseball. This season also marks the 50th year of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
