Surry Defeats Warriors in Home Opener

Dobson, NC- Surry jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the opening set, and never trailed in defeating Appalachian Bible College, 3-0, on Monday night. In the home opener, the Knights captured game one 25-12 followed by a 25-6 score in game two, and 25-6 score in the finale. Every Surry player contributed with Sara Parker and Summer Robertson leading with four kills each while Kara Hodges, Amber Owens, and Brittany Tolbert had a pair of kills. Elizabeth Marshall and Laura Martin each added a kill while Taylor Moxley led the Knights defensively with ten digs. Kara Hodges tallied ten assists with four blocks while Robertson and Amber Owens each added three blocks. Both Moxley and Robertson recorded two aces for the Knights with Alyssa Parker, Hayley Shore, and Brittany Tolbert each adding an ace. “Tonight was a total team effort,” stated Surry coach Jan Marion-Kiser. “Everyone saw action and contributed to our team. We have three more games this week, so it will test the depth of our team.” The Knights (5-1) will host Central Carolina on Thursday at 7 pm. Surry then travels to Wytheville on Friday for a 4 pm game with the Wildcats before returning home to face Virginia Western on Saturday at 3 pm. Admission to all Surry home volleyball games is free and open to the public.
